About the Internship Scheme

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy offers the National Renewable Energy Internship (NREI) Scheme through its Human Resource Development Division. It is a government internship program. 

This internship helps undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as research scholars, learn about renewable energy policies, projects, and government operations. It allows you to work with the Ministry and its affiliated organizations to learn about India’s renewable energy sector. Who Can Apply?

Applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria for the National Renewable Energy Internship Scheme can apply:

a. Educational Qualification:

Applicants should be pursuing a graduate or postgraduate degree in one of the following fields in India or abroad:

• Engineering
• Management
• Law
• Science
• Renewable Energy

b. Working Professionals:

Persons working in the Renewable Energy area in National, International, or Non-Governmental Institutes/Organizations are also eligible.

c. Work Experience:

Not required (for students)

d. Age Limit:

Not specified

Key Highlights

• Duration: 2 to 6 Months 
• Location: New Delhi. Students can also choose to intern virtually. 
• Stipend:  ₹15,000 per month for in-office internships. For virtual internships, no stipend will be provided.
• Number of Interns: Maximum 20 per year
• Application Window: Opens twice a year in January and July
• Application Timeline: Submit your application at least 1 month before joining and up to 3 months before the internship starts.
• Perks: Receive a National Renewable Energy internship certificate upon successful completion of the internship and evaluation of your report or paper.

What Will You Do?

The National Renewable Energy Internship Scheme provides you with direct exposure to the Ministry’s operations, programs, and policies in the renewable energy sector. Your responsibilities as an intern may include:

• Policy and program analysis

Step-by-Step Application Process

This national internship program application process is fully online. Here’s how you can apply:

• Step 1: Visit the MNRE HRD Portal [www.hrd.mnre.gov.in] and go to the internship application section.
• Step 2: Fill out the online application form with personal details, educational qualifications, area of interest, preferred internship start date, and internship duration (2 to 6 months).
• Step 3: Submit your application online at least 1 month before the expected date of joining.

Documents Required

Candidates must present the following documents in original at the time of joining after selection:

• Original Marksheets/Certificates
• No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Supervisor/Head of Department/Principal, stating the applicant’s status in the institution and approval for the student/employee to join the internship for the selected period. It should also confirm that the student will not enroll in any course requiring regular attendance during the internship.
