About the Program
The SEBI Legal Internship is an opportunity for students pursuing 3-year and 5-year law courses to intern in the Legal Department of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The internship aims to familiarise students with the landscape of securities laws in India.
The internship may be offered at SEBI’s Head Office in Mumbai throughout the year. Opportunities at select regional offices, including Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai, are also available during specified months. The internship is full-time and requires interns to report in person to their designated SEBI office.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be a student of a Law School/University recognized by the Bar Council of India and the UGC
- Should be a student in the 4th or final year of a 5-year law program.
- For a 3-year law program, the applicant should be in the 2nd or final year
- Students who have already appeared for their final semester exam are not eligible
- Have at least 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in the previous semester
- If you have a CGPA, use the percentage equivalent certified by your institution in the application
- The student should be below 28 years of age

SEBI Legal Internship Location & Months Available
Legal internships at SEBI Head Office are available throughout the year. However, internships at SEBI Regional Offices are available only during specific months.
- Northern Regional Office – New Delhi – June and July
- Eastern Regional Office – Kolkata – May and June
- Western Regional Office – Ahmedabad – May and June
- Southern Regional Office – Chennai – May and June
How to Apply for an Internship at SEBI?
- Apply Online: Apply only through the SEBI website’s online portal.
- Application Window: Apply from the 1st to 7th of each month for the following month’s internship.
- Cover Letter: Upload a signed and stamped cover letter from the Head of the Law School/College/University in the prescribed format.
- Percentage Details: The cover letter must state the aggregate percentage from previous semesters.
Note: Applications without the cover letter in the specified format will not be considered.
SEBI Law Internship Selection Process
- Merit-Based Selection: Selection is based on the aggregate percentage from previous semesters.
- Regional Office Selection: For select-month internships, selection is based on merit and preferred center.
- No Center Transfer: Center transfer requests are not accepted after allocation.
- Selection Communication: Shortlisted candidates are notified via email.
- Acceptance of Offer: Accept the offer by replying to the email within two days.
- Failure to Respond: No response within two days means the offer is withdrawn and given to the next eligible applicant.
- Future Applications: Not responding within the specified period does not affect future applications.
Application Materials Required
Applicants need to provide the following as part of the application:
- Online application form
- Cover letter on the letterhead of the Law School/College/University
- Educational qualification details
- Aggregate percentage or CGPA details
- Details of publications, research papers, or moot courts, if applicable
- Details of prior internships, if applicable
Intern’s Primary Responsibilities
- Follow SEBI’s code of conduct at all times.
- Report to the designated SEBI office on all working days, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Leave is permitted only for medical emergencies/exigencies with proof.
- Further absence may lead to disqualification and the issuance of no certificate.
- Inform the Division Chief immediately about any absence. Failure to do so may result in termination.
- Do not withdraw or change internship status without SEBI’s permission.
- Arrange medical insurance and bear costs arising from accidents or illness during the internship.
- Arrange and pay for accommodation and travel to and from the office.
- Assigned work remains SEBI’s property and cannot be published without prior permission.
- Submit an undertaking on confidentiality, non-disclosure, code of conduct, and assigned responsibilities at the time of joining.
- Failure to report without intimation or to complete the internship may affect eligibility for future SEBI internships.
Code of Conduct During Internship
- Maintain professional behavior in all interactions at SEBI.
- Follow all safety and sanitation measures.
- Follow a formal dress code and maintain appropriate conduct in the office and during court visits.
Certificate & Stipend Offered for SEBI Legal Internship
- Certificate issued upon successful and satisfactory completion of the internship.
- Eligible interns may receive a ₹10,000 stipend upon issuance of the certificate.


Internship Termination Guidelines
- SEBI may terminate the internship for non-compliance with the guidelines.
- Terminated interns will not receive the completion certificate or the ₹10,000 stipend.
- SEBI may also inform the intern’s educational institution about the termination.

Answer: The internship at SEBI’s Head Office is available year-round. Applications must be submitted from the 1st to the 7th of every month for the immediately succeeding month.
Answer: Applicants can indicate their preferred Regional Office internship center. However, allocation is based on merit and the center preferred by the applicant. A transfer request cannot be made once the center has been allocated.
Answer: If the selected applicant does not communicate their acceptance within two days of receiving the selection email, the offer will be withdrawn for that month and offered to the next eligible applicant. The applicant can apply again in the future.
Answer: A stipend of ₹10,000 may be provided upon issuance of the internship certificate after successful and satisfactory completion of the internship.
Answer: Leave is not granted except in cases of medical emergency or exigency supported by necessary proof. Further absence may disqualify the intern from the internship and make them ineligible for the internship certificate.
