Please note that RI Summer Scholars Program in an <strong>unpaid<\/strong> internship and the last date to apply is <strong><strong>January 31st, 2013<\/strong><\/strong> &#8211; hurry!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><strong>About Robotics Institute: &#8211; <\/strong>The Robotics Institute (RI) at Carnegie Mellon University (<a title=\"Robotics Institute at CMU\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ri.cmu.edu\/ri_static_content.html?menu_id=232\" target=\"_blank\">www.ri.cmu.edu\/ri_static_content.html?menu_id=232<\/a>) was established in 1979 to conduct basic and applied research in robotics technologies relevant to industrial and societal tasks. Seeking to combine the practical and the theoretical, the Robotics Institute has diversified its efforts and approaches to robotics science while retaining its original goal of realizing the potential of the robotics field. Some interesting facts about RI &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The facility is approximately 80,000 square feet on the Oakland Campus, 100,000 square feet at the National Robotics Engineering Center in Lawrenceville and 7,000 square feet and 40 acres of testing fields at Robot City, the new Field Robotics location in Hazelwood.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Robotics Institute has a budget of over $65 million an year.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Robotics Institute was the first Robotics department in any US university.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Robotics Institute research volume has doubled every 7 years since its founding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About Internship(s): &#8211; <\/strong>There are two types of internships available at the Robotics Institute; an 11-week &#8220;RI Summer Scholars&#8221; research experience and a less formal internship that is available year-round.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. <strong>The Robotics Institute Summer Scholars Program<\/strong> is an <strong><\/strong>intensive summer research program directed by Dr. J. Andrew Bagnell. Summer Scholars have the opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art research projects, interact with a diverse research team, and to be mentored by leading faculty and technical staff. The program introduces aspiring students to dynamic research resources and methods, RI graduate education programs and research projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Other internships at the Robotics Institute are available year-round via an informal two-step procedure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find a <a title=\"Robotics Internship Projects\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ri.cmu.edu\/research_project_view.html?menu_id=261\" target=\"_blank\">project<\/a> of interest to you on RI website<\/li>\n<li>Send email to the contact person listed on that page.<\/li>\n<li>The contact person will initiate that hiring process if they are in need of an intern.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Who can apply: &#8211; <\/strong>Undergraduate students with keen interest and knowledge in the field of Robotics<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Location: &#8211; <\/strong>Pittsburgh, USA<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Duration: &#8211; <\/strong>RI Summer Scholars Program is 11 weeks in duration (starting early June).
