\nThere has been a challenge that has been trending for generations now. It has gripped the nation, and we see that millions and millions of students are taking it up. It’s the UPSC challenge! To be honest, you\u2019d rather prefer to do the ice bucket challenge in the middle of the Arctic than\u00a0even considering this arduous task, but there are some brave souls out there who have taken it up.\u00a0If you have met any, you\u2019d agree that they could be easily classified into these 6 types –

\nCAT, GMAT, GRE, SSC, Bank PO,\u00a0NET –\u00a0<\/span>did we miss out on anything? Their take on career is let\u2019s attempt every paper known to mankind and see where that leads us. They surely do their part by filling up the form but hope with all their hearts that they’d eventually figure out what they really want to do before attempting this one.<\/p>\n

2. Next time? There will be no next time! –<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nIdeally, every UPSC aspirant wants to clear the paper in her first attempt but many are willing to take the exam time and again if need be. Lately, however, there have been\u00a0sightings of a new breed. These are the aspirants who have decided to attempt it once and only once, and if they don’t get through<\/span>, they are ready to hop on to the next career train.<\/p>\n

The public has only heard about the epic \u201cgovernment life\u201d but this lot has breathed the government life, hence they all have a severe case of UPSC-toh-mere-khoon-mein-hai<\/em> syndrome.<\/p>\n

4. The golden kid –<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nRemember when\u00a0adults used to ask \u201cWhat do you want to be when you grow up?\u201d and\u00a0kids would go with \u201cdoctor\u201d or \u201cteacher\u201d, but there would be that one kid\u00a0who\u00a0would say \u201cIAS\u201d, making you wonder which stone you had taken permanent residency under for not having known what the hell IAS was! This is that kid. She\u00a0has been training for this moment when she would not only sit for the paper but also ace it. Walking at an unusual pace with three fat books stashed under\u00a0her\u00a0armpit and <\/del>two spectacles (obviously, backup!), she can always be seen heading to the library.<\/span>

\n<\/span>5.\u00a0Kuch Kuch Quota Hai<\/em> –<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nNow, there is a tiny population of students who get their\u00a0boost from believing that they could clear UPSC\u00a0because they have\u00a0a quota. It is almost an insult for them\u00a0to <\/span><\/span>not\u00a0<\/span>sit for UPSC and try their\u00a0luck with it, though deep\u00a0down, they have different plans.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6. Odins of IASgard –<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nMost of their kind believe UPSC is like Candy Crush, but\u00a0instead of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0candies,\u00a0it’s their\u00a0number of attempts that are crushed. They would direct their chi<\/em> towards utilizing all 6 attempts available to them,<\/del> even if it means they would become as old as Odin. Not just old, they are also\u00a0as wis<\/span>e as Odin\u00a0because<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>they know the deep dark secrets that only experience can teach. In every conversation, 15 years worth of wisdom will pour out, with a fiery hailstorm of ‘back in my day’ and ‘coachin<\/span>g centers are colossal waste’ lectures.<\/span><\/p>\n

All jokes aside, like any other field, UPSC is\u00a0not an easy\u00a0nut to crack,\u00a0and it takes determination and pure will to gain what the aspirants\u00a0truly seek.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
