In the past 2 years I have interned across 3 companies, namely ONGC, Tata Steel & Halliburton but my best internship till date has been with Halliburton! My internship was on Coal Bed Methane which is presently an upcoming field in the petroleum industry. During my stay at Asansol, I got the opportunity to see Drilling, Hydro fracturing and Cementing operations, all at different field sites which was a wonderful experience mentored by the best professionals in the Indian oil field industry as well as expatriates from other countries. I as an intern was grasping all the knowledge that I could get from the work going around at the fields and studied the operations extensively by observation. Since I am from a mining engineering background, I worked more on the intersection of Coalbed Methane and Coal mining, i.e. how do coal properties such as geological characteristics, permeability etc. affect the Coalbed Methane extraction operations.<\/p>\n

Each field visit used to be for 12 hrs a shift and it used to drain all the energy from the body but then the company took great care of us. I was treated like any other employee at Halliburton, and all the expenses were well taken care of. Halliburton didn’t pay any stipend but I can assure you that the company must have spent at least Rs. 40,000 per intern during the entire month. Still better, they have an excellent work culture which is the charm of the company. Be it an intern, an employee or a crane operator, all are treated as equals. For example, there used to be yard meetings every morning (even on Sundays) sharp at 8 am where everyone present at the yard had to be there and it was like a big family discussing their daily agendas and issues. Nobody (even interns) calls anybody Sir\/Madam and we all used to have our meals sitting together at the same place (includes the crane operator).<\/p>\n

Halliburton gave me an introduction to the MNC work culture and their ethics too which is something very basic many companies lack at, but is an important thing for anybody working in the industry. Now it\u2019s quite certain that in future when I pass out of the campus, I certainly would give a company’s work culture a high priority on choosing my career path.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
