Really nice subjects of jokes, that is. These jokes make it seem like bosses have been terrorizing employees for generations. Since it is likely that for most of you, an internship this summer will bring you in contact with your first ever boss, it is helpful to know what real bosses are like. We hope these tips help you manage all sorts of bosses, from jovial to evil dictators:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>1. Imagine yourself in their shoes.<\/strong> Responsibilities grow as the hierarchy progresses. Recognize that you are only a part of your manager&#8217;s responsibilities; their world does not revolve around you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2. Be prepared.<\/strong> When you have quick answers to all your boss&#8217;s questions ready, it makes the world a happy place full of unicorns, rainbows and free wifi. If you have a presentation or report scheduled, prepare beforehand for all likely questions. You end up saving time (theirs and yours), eliminating the need for a follow up and generally make things more efficient.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3. Make sure they don&#8217;t have to micromanage you.<\/strong> Take ownership of your work. Do not wait for your boss to remind you about your work. It is, after all, <em>your<\/em> work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4. Be honest about your workload.<\/strong> If you take on too much work to please your boss, you&#8217;re only going to end up disappointing them. Be honest about how much work you can reasonably do, and deliver on time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>5. Bond!<\/strong> Your manager is human too. Although your office atmosphere might be very professional, everyone appreciates an occassional joke. So long as you don&#8217;t treat your manager like a school buddy, it is okay to not talk about work all the time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>6. Do NOT gossip about your boss.<\/strong> Bitching about the boss with a fellow intern can seem fun and harmless, but it can be really damaging.
