It\u2019s the newest college fad. I see everyone and their dog following umpteen TV shows these days. Finally, it seems, everyone is making good use of DC++ and everyone has their most favourite TV show almost on speed dial. No matter why you watch that TV show \u2013 maybe as the perfect accompaniment for that packet of Lays, maybe the perfect 20 minute break between gruelling study sessions, or maybe a great way to connect with your best buddies. Rohan Passey, your average college student from BITS Pilani, feels that no matter what reason one may have for watching their favourite TV show, there is something we can learn from each of them \u2013 and this is what he learnt from his favourites.<\/em><\/p>\n

F.R.I.E.N.D.S<\/b> \u2013 Everyone\u2019s favourite show to go to in times of sadness, happiness, remembrance, or just general chilling, F.R.I.E.N.D.S has a lot of valuable lessons, some far lesser obvious than meets the eye. Yes, it\u2019s important to have friends, yes, they\u2019ll always be there for you, but F.R.I.E.N.D.S actually has a lot more to teach us, and each individual character has something in it for us.<\/p>\n

Pheobe taught me, it\u2019s okay to be a little crazy. Monica taught me, being a perfectionist is awesome. Joey taught me, \u2018How you doin?<\/em>\u2019 Just kidding. He taught me to always, always be loyal. Rachel taught me, it\u2019s okay to be a little pampered at times, one does eventually find their way. Ross taught me to always do what I love. And Chandler taught me sarcasm. No kidding. And also how to be awesome. (No sarcasm here. Seriously.)<\/p>\n

Game of Thrones<\/b> \u2013 This particular TV Show brought with it a whole new meaning to the word \u2018spoiler\u2019. Many have read it, many more have seen it. But despite all the shenanigans the show has to offer, there are so many things that it teaches us, I will restrict myself to just a few here. Oh and, season 4 spoilers ahead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of the most important things Game of Thrones has taught me is to never get attached to someone too much<\/b>. If anything happens to them, God knows you\u2019re in for some trouble. Game of Thrones is a shining example of that. \u2018Hey, so I heard you liked Oberyn. How about I crush his head in completely?\u2019 Yes. I\u2019m pretty sure George R. R. Martin is sitting figuring out more inventive ways to kill everyone\u2019s favourite character next.<\/p>\n

Who doesn\u2019t love Tyrion Lannister? The Imp has his fair share of superb quotes. While some are funny, some are extremely meaningful and relevant to a lot of us. \u201cLet me give you some advice, bastard: Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.\u201d Always remember who you are, what you stand for and you will go places.<\/b><\/p>\n

Oh and, obviously, \u201cI am not questioning your honour, I am denying its existence.\u201d Because that\u2019s how he rolls.<\/p>\n

Dexter \u2013 <\/b>Everyone\u2019s favourite philosophical<\/i> serial killer! Cold-blooded and emotionless he may be (well at least in the beginning) but Dexter has some excellent things to say. \u201cLight cannot exist without darkness. Each has its purpose. And if there is a purpose to my darkness maybe it\u2019s to bring some balance to the world.\u201d Everyone has a dark side. That quiet, sweet kid at school? Has one. That bubbly, charming senior? Has one. You need to accept it. Embrace it. It has a purpose, maybe not obvious, but it might just be to \u2018balance the world\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are no two stronger human emotions than fear and love. In many ways they\u2019re not so different. Both can make you do crazy things.\u201d Remember Imran Khan\u2019s crazy dash into the airport in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na? Or this guy, who actually dug a 6000 stair path in a Mountain for his beloved<\/a>? Crazy things indeed.<\/p>\n

It’s okay to wear the same shirt every day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sherlock<\/b> \u2013 Who doesn\u2019t love the wit and guile of Sherlock Holmes? Everyone\u2019s favourite detective rose to much prominence with Benedict Cumberbatch\u2019s portrayal of the obnoxious, inscrutable, yet mind-boggingly intelligent character in BBC\u2019s TV series. \u201cEvery fairy tale needs a good old-fashioned villain\u201d. Moriarty\u2019s line could not be further from the truth. Whether it is that hateful lab teacher, that ignorant boss, or just that annoying neighbour, everyone\u2019s fairy tale life has a villain. So if you do plan on living happily ever after, make sure you gun down your life\u2019s villain before that! (Figuratively, of course. Tell your dark passenger to chill out!)<\/p>\n
