About the internship

A non-paid internship is available for a period of six months (extendable by a year), with the Clinician Scientists Laboratory, ACTREC, TMC, Navi Mumbai. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to apply novel informatic algorithms to unravel mutational signatures underlying a rare cancer type. Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Integrate multiple data types generated on high throughput OMICS platforms, & interpret the causal role of genetic aberrations driving this cancer. We are hopeful the outcomes of this project will lead to an increased understanding of genetic aberrations and their biological mechanisms underlying carcinogenesis

Added requirements

1. Strong theoretical concepts in statistics

2. Intermediate programming knowledge (Subroutines, Linkage scripts, etc.) of anyone: Perl/ Unix Shell/ Python

3. Basic knowledge of any programming database (SQL or NoSQL)

4. Experience in writing GUI wrappers/ Executables on Linux will be an added advantage.

Additional information

Candidates with backgrounds in mathematics (Statistics), bioinformatics and computational science are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be able to hone their skills on real-world data from Indian patients. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, basic scientists, and computational biologists. The candidate will contribute to work that may have a direct impact on disease treatment

TMH Mumbai is a 629-bed hospital spread over 53,890 sq. meters. ACTREC in Navi Mumbai is a translational and basic science center established to conduct cancer research. TMC Mumbai heads the fight to combat the menace of Cancer in India and has been at the forefront of this battle since the 1950s. TMC has many firsts to its credits, including India's first Bone Marrow transplant unit. Today, TMC is a globally recognized behemoth in clinical and translational cancer research that very often is practice changing.
