About the internship

Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Codify the tacit knowledge of village masons for the building of novel and safe ecological toilets
2. Design a simple manual for the building of ecological toilets approved by the Government of India, this can be done from the existing literature which will be provided to you and should be detailed enough for replication and simple enough for rural masons to use it, there should be plenty of simple drawings
3. Spend a fortnight in Kameswaram village and participate in the building of an ecological toilet and field visits to see different ecological toilet designs
4. Revise the original manual
5. Spend 3 days in Kameswaram to present the manual to the masons for validation
6. Give a resentation of the revised manual

What would an intern learn in this internship?

1. You will learn to think and write scientifically to make a knowledge product in the form of a manual to be used by those with and without formal education
2. You will also learn how to design a research project, how to implement a research project, how to communicate to codify tacit knowledge and how to write a scientific report

Additional information

1. The NGO will provide a chart of your capabilities as assessed by your progress, and acknowledgment of authorship in all FIN publications using material co-developed by students, supervision team and masons
2. All travel costs and costs of the stay in Kameswaram village will be borne by FIN
