About the internship

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Responsible for designing digital logic circuits for high-performance processor chips.

2. Involves designing and optimizing analog components to support processor functionality.

3. Working on floor planning, placement, routing, and timing closure for advanced semiconductor nodes (5nm, 3nm, and beyond).

4. Ensuring functional correctness of processor designs through simulation and formal verification techniques.

5. Conducting validation at different stages to ensure chip performance and reliability.

6. Designing custom transistor layouts for optimized performance and area efficiency.

7. Developing and characterizing memory architectures for high-speed computing applications.

8. Working on Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to enhance design efficiency.

9. Ensuring accurate library models for different process nodes.

10. Involvement in the complete design process of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and System-on-Chip (SoC).

11. Supporting the development of next-generation processors powering IBM Z Systems (Mainframe) & IBM Power Systems.

12. Working in IBM's Bangalore team, collaborating with global teams on processor design and validation.

13. Gaining hands-on experience in the latest semiconductor technologies (5nm, 3nm, and future nodes).

Other requirements

1. Master’s or Doctorate degree in VLSI Design, Electronics, Computer Science Engineering, or other relevant hardware specializations.

2. Strong foundation in digital circuits and logic design principles.

3. Understanding of processor architectures, including instruction set architectures (ISA) and microarchitectural concepts.

4. Experience with RISC-V or other processor pipeline architectures.

5. Familiarity with the end-to-end VLSI design flow, including front-end and back-end processes.

6. Proficiency in designing and optimizing custom circuits for high-performance applications.

7. Strong grasp of analog and digital circuit principles, including design and validation.

8. Knowledge of memory architectures and design considerations for high-speed computing.

9. Ability to analyze and optimize system-level architectures for performance and efficiency.

10. Proficiency in Python or Perl, especially for processor verification and validation roles.
