The Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON) and the Joint Institute for VLBI ERIC (JIVE) announce the availability of a limited number of grants for their 2018 Summer Research Programme.
About ASTRON (http://www.astron.nl/):
ASTRON is the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy. Its main mission is to make discoveries in radio astronomy happen, via the development of new and innovative technologies, the operation of world-class radio astronomy facilities, and the pursuit of fundamental astronomical research. Engineers and astronomers at ASTRON have an outstanding international reputation for novel technology development, and fundamental research in galactic and extra-galactic astronomy.
About the Internship:
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include conducting astronomical research under the supervision of ASTRON and JIVE staff members (possible topics of study include radio galaxies and quasars, aspects of observational cosmology, continuum and line mission/ absorption from normal and starbust galaxies, faint radio sources, pulsar timing, pulsar searching, fast radio bursts, molecular clouds, cosmic magnetism, as well as algorithm development).
Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
  1. are available for full time (in-office) internship
  2. are available for duration of 3 months
  3. have relevant skills and interests
Other requirements:
  1. The programme is not aimed at engineering or electronics students
  2. Astronomy students (graduate or advanced under-graduate) can only apply
Additional Information:
1. The research grants will provide successful candidates with accommodation at the locality of the institute in Dwingeloo, a modest stipend for up to three months, and full travel reimbursement
2. We expect the participants to start early June 2018 to ensure overlap of the participants so they can fully benefit from the scheduled lectures and social activities
