The Biochemical Society sets aside as much funding as possible for its annual Summer Vacation Studentships and makes every effort to increase this total each year, providing many undergraduate students with the valuable experience of laboratory research.

About Biochemical Society (http://www.biochemistry.org/Home.aspx):

The Biochemical Society engages with science policy through consultations, position statements, events, and addressing key issues such as those facing women in science.

About the Internship:

The scheme is eligible to undergraduates wishing to embark on a placement in the UK or abroad. Students will need to pair up with a potential supervisor at the institution they hope to spend the placement and develop a project for their application.

Undergraduates applying to the scheme do not have to be ‘biochemistry’ students, but the project must be on biochemistry-related topic.

Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
  1. are available for full time (in-office) internship
  2. are available for duration of 6 weeks (preferred, not mandatory)
  3. are pursuing any degree but have relevant skills and interest
  4. are currently in any year of study or are recent graduates
Other requirements:
  1. A Level results and details of marks so far achieved on the degree course, e.g. a Grade % for each module studied on the course. Ranking within the year would be useful.
  2. Students must be 2i candidate or above.
Additional Information:
Note:

  • Students with a low A-level score will still be acknowledged if they have done well in their university course, but applicants who are only likely to achieve a 2ii (whatever their A-level score) will generally not to favoured.

  • There will be no discrimination regarding overseas applications or applications involving mature students.
