Selco Foundation engages in field-based R&D and ecosystem building for deployment of decentralized renewable energy solutions that alleviate poverty in urban, rural and tribal areas. Selco Foundation was founded in 2010 as a non-profit registered in the city of Bangalore, India. Since its inception, Selco has focused on the creation of a holistic ecosystem to provide reliable energy services for under-served communities. Selco works to link the benefits of sustainable energy to poverty eradication by collaborating with other NGOs, local financial institutions, education institutions and social enterprises. The philosophy of Selco Foundation is to create avenues for asset building, enhancement in quality of life and wealth creation through sustainable development solutions. The solution framework adopted by Selco is to create and implement solutions via a network of labs which are an open source initiative capable of bringing social innovations to scale.
About the Internship:
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Work with the internal project teams and partners to gather all the required information to develop the tool
2. Develop an Excel model that integrates all the components and validate the calculations with implemented cases
3. Develop a web-based platform to enable other users to easily understand and use the tool

Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
  1. can start the internship between 12th Sep'17 and 12th Oct'17
  2. are available for duration of 3 months (preferred, not mandatory)
  3. are from Bangalore
  4. are pursuing any degree but have relevant skills and interest
  5. are currently in any year of study or are recent graduates

About the project:

A holistic approach to innovations linking poverty alleviation and sustainable energy considers technical as well as non-technical components, such as market linkages and appropriate financial models. From a technology perspective, the energy efficiency of livelihood equipment plays a crucial role in determining the benchmark cost and lowering cost of providing clean energy backup. A comprehensive tool is being developed that integrates aspects of needs assessment, technology selection, energy solution design, revenue model and financing options for these livelihoods.
