Associate Desk Editor Job

Key responsibilities:

1. Work on project management and coordination, and oversee the entire production process of a magazine, from conception to print, to ensure that all deadlines are met
2. Ensure content readiness as per the content plan and create pagination
3. Liaise with columnists, editors, writers/designers and data team for page layouts, images, graphs and tables/printers to ensure that all elements of the magazine are delivered on time and to the required standard
4. Provide attention-grabbing headlines and blurbs
5. Fit text on pages
6. Close the editions on time
7. Work on quality control and ensure that the final product meets the quality standards set for the magazine, including checking the content, design, and printing
8. Work on deadline management and ensure that the magazine is delivered on time to subscribers and retailers and that any special issues or supplements are produced to the same standard
9. Work on continuous improvement, identify opportunities to improve the production process and implement changes to increase efficiency and reduce costs
10. Work on problem-solving and identify and resolve any production issues that arise to ensure that the magazine is produced on time and to the required standard

Required:

1. Experience of 3-5 years as a desk editor with a print publication
2. Knowledge of Infographics: bar charts/line charts
3. Basic knowledge of publishing software like InDesign will be desirable
4. Basic understanding of investments and personal finance
5. Strong time management skills - the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines
6. Excellent interpersonal communication skills
