The NPTEL Winter Internship provides eligible learners with an opportunity to gain research experience under the guidance of faculty members from IITs, IISc, IISERs, IIITs, and other NPTEL course-offering institutes.
The internship is generally offered during the winter (November – January) and summer (May – July) semester breaks, depending on faculty availability and institute resources. Eligible learners from the January – April semester are considered for the Winter Internship, while learners from the July – October semester are considered for the Summer Internship.
Learners who qualify through eligible NPTEL courses may be invited to undertake research projects at NPTEL course-offering institutes under the supervision of course instructors.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the NPTEL Winter Internship:
- Candidates must have completed an NPTEL course.
- Secured the Elite-Gold certification to be eligible to apply.
- The internship is open only to students and faculty members based on the profession they selected during course enrollment.
- Students are eligible only for in-person internships.
- Faculty members who cannot take leave from their institution may be considered for virtual internships, wherever feasible.
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD) may also be considered for virtual internships, subject to feasibility.
- Candidates enrolled in eligible NPTEL courses during the January – April semester may be considered for the NPTEL winter internship, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

How to Apply for the NPTEL Winter Internship

- 8-week internship: ₹30,000
- 10-week internship: ₹37,500

What Happens After the Internship Program?
After successfully completing the NPTEL winter internship, interns receive an internship certificate and practical research experience under faculty members from leading institutes.
To complete the internship successfully, candidates must:
- Submit the final internship report to the supervising professor for approval.
- Share the approved report with the NPTEL office along with a passport-size photograph.
- Submit banking and PAN details for stipend processing.
- Maintain regular attendance and receive positive feedback from the course instructor.
