📌About the Event
The IGBC Green Your School Programme 2026 is the 20th edition of a nationwide sustainability competition that encourages school students to develop practical ideas for making their campuses greener and more environment-friendly. The 2026 theme is “Think Green with 3W – Water, Waste & Well-Being.” Students work with a teacher to identify sustainability challenges and propose innovative, implementable solutions that can reduce their school’s environmental impact.
ℹ️ Event Details
- Edition: 20th edition.
- Theme: Think Green with 3W – Water, Waste & Well-Being.
- Mode of Conduct: Online for registration, idea submission and initial evaluation. Only selected schools need to travel for the award ceremony.
- Team Composition: Each school must participate with 1 teacher and 3 students.
- Student Classes: Participating students must be from Classes 7, 8 or 9. Students may belong to the same class or different eligible classes.
- Competition Focus: Teams develop sustainable ideas that can be implemented in their school or community.
- Suggested focus areas include:
- Water quality and water conservation
- Waste management
- Energy efficiency
- Daylight and ventilation
- Clean and functional toilets
- Hygiene management
- Physical and mental well-being
📅 Important Dates
- Registration Deadline: 15 September 2026.
- Project/Idea Submission Deadline: 15 October 2026.
- Shortlisting/Final Jury: Dates have not yet been publicly specified.
- Result Announcement: IGBC will communicate the result date to participating schools through email.
🎯 Eligibility & Rules
- Eligibilty:
- Government schools
- Public schools
- Private schools
- Charitable schools
- Defence schools
- Sainik Schools across India.
- Students studying in Classes 7–9 can be part of the official team.
- Team Requirement: Exactly 3 students + 1 teacher form the participating team.
- One Team Rule: Only one team per school is permitted. Multiple teams from the same school can lead to disqualification.
- Other students from the school may support the participating team in developing its ideas, but only three students are registered as participants.
- Teams should propose student-developed ideas rather than relying mainly on ready-made or purchased solutions
🏆 Benefits for the Participants
- 1st Prize: ₹3 lakh implementation grant + Trophy + Certificate
- 2nd Prize: ₹2.75 lakh implementation grant + Trophy + Certificate
- 3rd Prize: ₹2.5 lakh implementation grant + Trophy + Certificate
- 4th & 5th Prize: ₹2.25 lakh grant each + Trophy + Certificate
- 6th, 7th & 8th Prize: ₹2 lakh grant each.
- All participants: E-Certificate of Participation.
- Winning schools receive national-level recognition for their sustainability initiatives.
- For the top three schools, travel to the award ceremony is sponsored by the organisers.
- Prize grants are transferred to winning schools after completion of the required due-diligence process.
