The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027/28 are fully funded scholarships for students from eligible least-developed and vulnerable Commonwealth countries to pursue full-time doctoral study at a UK university. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), the programme supports high-quality research that can contribute to sustainable development in scholars’ home countries.

🎯 Eligibility & Rules

• Eligibilty:
• Applicants must be citizens of, have refugee status in, or be British Protected Persons connected to an eligible Commonwealth country.
• Candidates must be permanently resident in an eligible country.
• Applicants must be available to begin their UK studies in September 2027.
• By September 2027, candidates should normally hold:
• At least an upper second-class (2:1) undergraduate degree, or
• A lower second-class degree along with a relevant postgraduate qualification, usually a Master’s degree.
• Applicants must not already have been registered for a PhD or an MPhil leading to a PhD before September/October 2026.
