The Painting Competition on North East India is a national-tier visual arts campaign launched by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) in coordination with MyGov.
Organized as part of the country’s Independence Day Celebrations 2026, this contest aims to raise national awareness about the modern milestones, developmental transformations, and socio-economic achievements of India’s eight northeastern states. The initiative encourages citizens to use art to capture the unique blend of the region’s rich cultural roots, its booming infrastructural growth, and its forward-looking aspirations.

🎨 Core Artistic Themes & Vision Tracks
Every artwork submitted must explicitly focus on one of the following three designated ministerial themes:
- “Tiranga and the Seven Sisters” – Merging symbols of national unity with the distinct cultural identities and landscape heritages of the northeastern states.
- “Viksit Bharat, Vibrant North East” – Showcasing the region’s technological breakthroughs, connectivity expansions, eco-tourism projects, and economic vitality.
- “My India, My North East” – Exploring personal reflections, pride, and the deep-rooted integration of the northeast into India’s overarching growth story.
⚖️ Technical Screening & Evaluation Framework
Submissions will be assessed by a dedicated MDoNER Ministry Screening Committee based on six key criteria:
- Creativity & Originality: Unique conceptual ideas that go beyond standard clichés.
- Relevance to Theme: Clear alignment with the chosen vision track.
- Artistic Skills & Technique: Quality of brushwork, sketching, or chosen artistic medium.
- Composition & Color Balance: Harmony, tonal control, and deliberate arrangement of visual elements.
- Presentation: Neatness and clean digital execution of the artwork image.
- Visual Impact: The overall emotional and aesthetic strength of the final piece.
🏆 Rewards, Certifications, & VIP Red Fort Passes
MDoNER has structured a dual-track reward layout to recognize artistic talent both nationally and within the target region:
- National Top 10 Recognitions: The Top 10 winners across the entire competition pool will receive official, validated Merit Certificates from MDoNER.
- VIP Red Fort Pass Allocations (Special Regional Bracket): Three specific winners will be explicitly chosen from the Eight North Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura).
- Live Independence Day Invitation: These three selected regional winners will secure an exclusive opportunity to travel to New Delhi to witness the Independence Day Celebrations live on August 15, 2026, at the Red Fort.
