The BIRAC E-YUVA & Innovation Fellowship 2026–27 is an initiative by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. It supports undergraduate student teams, postgraduate graduates and PhD holders in developing innovative biotechnology solutions through financial assistance, research grants, mentorship and incubation support.

🎯 Eligibility and Rules
- E-YUVA Fellowship: Open to teams of 3–5 Indian undergraduate students studying at Indian colleges or institutions in any discipline.
- E-YUVA teams must have a mentor or guide, and interdisciplinary teams are encouraged.
- Innovation Fellowship — Postgraduate: Open to Indian applicants who have completed a master’s degree in any discipline and apply within three years of graduation; female applicants are exempt from this time limit.
- Innovation Fellowship — Postdoctoral: Open to Indian applicants who have completed a PhD in any discipline and apply within two years of graduation; female applicants are exempt from this time limit.
- Applicants currently pursuing postgraduate studies or a PhD are not eligible for the Innovation Fellowship grant.
- Innovation Fellows must work full-time at the designated E-YUVA Centre and are expected to develop commercially viable biotechnology products or technologies.
- E-YUVA projects must be original and aim to develop innovative biotechnology products or technologies with societal or commercial potential.
🏆 Benefits for the Participants
- E-YUVA Student Stipend: ₹7,500 per student per quarter, subject to mentor approval.
- E-YUVA Research Grant: ₹2,50,000 per team for one year, administered through the institution and mentor.
- Postgraduate Innovation Fellowship: ₹30,000 per month plus an annual research grant of ₹3,00,000.
- Postdoctoral Innovation Fellowship: ₹50,000 per month plus an annual research grant of ₹5,00,000.
- Fellowship Duration: 12 months for E-YUVA Fellows and 18 months for Innovation Fellows, with a possible six-month extension for deserving Innovation Fellows.
- Research Facilities: Access to incubation infrastructure, laboratory facilities and E-YUVA Centre resources, as applicable.
