๐About the Event
FutureHacks 2026 is an international virtual hackathon organised by The TechShare Project to encourage young students to use technology for solving real-world urban challenges. Based on the theme โBuild the city of tomorrow, today,โ participants can develop websites, mobile applications, games, civic tools, smart infrastructure solutions or other technology projects that improve how people live, work and connect in future cities. The competition welcomes beginners as well as experienced student programmers.

- Theme: Build the city of tomorrow, today
- Mode of conduct: Fully online or virtual
- Participation format: Individual participation or teams of up to four members
- Project focus: Smart infrastructure, sustainability, civic technology and solutions that improve urban life
- Permitted project formats: Websites, mobile applications, games, digital tools and other creative technology projects
- Experience divisions:
- Beginner: No previous programming experience
- Intermediate: One to two years of experience with at least one programming language
- Advanced: Three or more years of programming experience
- Team division rule: Teams must enter the division corresponding to their most experienced member.
- Tools and technologies: Participants may use any programming language, platform or development tool, including Scratch, Python and JavaScript.

- Opening ceremony: June 24, 2026, at 8:00 AM EDT
- Hacking begins: June 24, 2026, at 9:00 AM EDT
- Speaker session: June 25, 2026; time and speaker to be announced
- Workshop: June 26, 2026; details to be announced
- Final submission deadline: June 28, 2026, at 8:00 PM EDT
- Judging period: June 28, 2026, at 8:00 PM EDT to June 30, 2026
๐ฏ Eligibility & Rules
- Participant category: Students only
- Eligibility clarification: The separate rules page says any student under 18 is eligible. Students below 13 should confirm their eligibility directly with the organisers before registering.
- Professional restriction: Companies and professional organisations cannot participate.
- Experience requirement: No previous coding or hackathon experience is required for the beginner track.
- Team size: Students may participate individually or in teams of up to four.
- Original-work rule: All coding, design and project development must begin and be completed during the June 24โ28 hackathon window.
- Pre-event preparation: Participants may brainstorm ideas and learn relevant skills before the event, but previously created code or designs cannot be submitted.
- Theme requirement: Projects should be inspired by a future city and should ideally address urban, environmental, civic or community challenges.
- Submission rule: Projects must be submitted by 8:00 PM EDT on June 28. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Submission instructions: The detailed submission process and link will be shared with registered participants before the event.
