The MCO Student Essay Competition 2026 is an international essay competition by the Magna Charta Observatory for university students worldwide. The 2026 theme asks students to reflect on “How have the humanities influenced your entry to and/or your experience of higher education?” The competition aims to amplify student voices on access to higher education, belonging, academic growth, and the role of humanities in shaping university experiences.

🎯 Eligibility & Rules
- Eligibility: Open to students registered at any university or higher education institution in any country.
- Entry Limit: Only one essay per author is allowed.
- Anonymity Rule: The essay and file name must not include the author’s name or the name of their university/institution.
- Original Work: Essays must be solely written by the author.
- Use of Sources: Quotations from other works are allowed, but they must be properly acknowledged.
- AI Policy: Generative AI is not allowed in planning or writing the essay; suspected AI use may lead to exclusion.
- Submission Rule: Essays must be uploaded only through the official MCO competition portal.
🏆 Benefits for the Participants
- Number of Prizes: Up to 5 winners may be selected.
- Winner Opportunity: Winners may get the chance to present their essays and participate in international discussions.
- Conference Participation: Winners may attend either the MCO Anniversary Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania or the World Access to Higher Education / Equality in Action Conference in Sydney, Australia.
- Prize Coverage: Prizes may include travel and accommodation expenses, or an alternative prize, at the organizers’ discretion
