PhotoPlace Gallery — OPEN CALL: A Celebration of Contemporary Photography 2026 is an international juried photography open call celebrating the creativity, diversity, and evolving practice of photography today. The call is open to photographers worldwide and welcomes all photographic subjects, styles, and processes, including landscape, portraiture, documentary, conceptual, experimental, and alternative photography. Selected works will be shown in PhotoPlace Gallery’s Middlebury, Vermont gallery, featured online, included in the exhibition catalog, and promoted on social media

- Mode of conduct: Online submission through PhotoPlace Gallery’s submission portal.
- Exhibition mode: Selected works will be displayed in a physical gallery exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery, Middlebury, Vermont, USA, and selected images will also be showcased online.
- Theme: Open contemporary photography — all subjects, styles, and photographic processes are welcome.
- Jurors: Paula Tognarelli and Gallery Director Zach Hoffman.
📅 Important Dates
- Submission deadline: June 8, 2026
- Prints due: July 24, 2026
- Exhibition dates: August 7 – August 29, 2026
- World Photography Day context: The exhibition is presented in celebration of World Photography Day, August 19.
- Selection notification: Submitters are usually notified by email 14–18 days after the submission deadline.
🎯 Eligibility & Rules
- Eligibility: Open to photographers worldwide.
- Accepted photography styles: Traditional, experimental, personal, universal, documentary, portrait, landscape, conceptual, alternative, and contemporary photographic work is welcome.
- AI rule: Fully AI-generated images are not eligible. Submitted work must originate through the use of a camera, light, and the photographer’s own observation and creative vision.
- Image ownership: Participants must own the rights to their images and take responsibility for the content submitted.
- File format: Images must be submitted as JPG or JPEG files.
- File size: Maximum file size is up to 5MB.
- Recommended image resolution: Around 2100 pixels on the longest side and 300ppi recommended.
- Watermark rule: Avoid watermarks or signatures, as they may affect jurying.
🏆 Prize Details and Value
- Physical exhibition: Up to 35 selected images will be exhibited at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont, USA.
- Online gallery feature: Another 40 images will be selected for the Online Gallery.
- Catalog publication: All 75 selected images will be reproduced in the official exhibition catalog.
- Permanent online visibility: Selected works will remain permanently on PhotoPlace Gallery’s website.
- Social media promotion: Selected photographers will be promoted on PhotoPlace Gallery’s social media with links to their photographer URLs.
- Artist rights: Photographers retain all rights to their images.
- Cash awards: ArtDeadline lists awards as
- Juror’s Award: $300,
- Director’s Award: $200, and
- 3 Honorable Mentions: $50 each
