📌About the Event

Prajatantra 2026 – National Youth Festival is the eighth edition of a pan-India youth festival that encourages students and young changemakers to understand democracy, urban governance and policymaking through practical competitions and discussions. The theme for the 2026 edition is “Housing the Future: Building Cities for All,” focusing on accessible, affordable, inclusive and sustainable urban housing. Participants will assume roles similar to mayors, municipal committee members and policymakers to develop solutions for challenges faced by Indian cities.

🎯 Eligibility & Rules

• Who can participate:
  • Participants must register as a team of four to eight members.
  • The festival is designed primarily for students and young participants from colleges and educational institutions across India.
  • Students from different educational backgrounds and disciplines may participate.
  • The official 2026 concept note does not specify a fixed age limit, degree requirement or academic stream restriction.
  • The event welcomes participants irrespective of class, caste, gender, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion.
  • Colleges and institutions will be responsible for their participating students.
  • One team can participate in multiple competitions by assigning the required number of members to each activity.

🏆 Benefits for the Participants

• One individual winner will be selected in each competition.
• Two runners-up will be selected in each competition.
• One team will receive the Best Team Award based on its combined performance across the festival.
• Every participant will receive a Certificate of Participation.
• Finalists will receive the opportunity to:
  • Present their ideas before urban-governance and public-policy experts.
  • Interact with professionals from government, academia and the development sector.
  • Gain practical exposure through policy research and field engagement.
  • Develop skills in leadership, policymaking, communication, debating, research and civic participation.
