The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition 2026 is now open to entrants. Formerly known as the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, this globally celebrated programme has a fresh new identity and is delivered by the Royal Commonwealth Society since 1883. This year’s inspiring theme is Common Ground: Better Together, encouraging participants to reflect on the bonds that unite people and communities throughout the Commonwealth.

🎯 What You Will Do
- Read the 2026 theme brief carefully and choose your writing format, whether essay, poem, story, letter, or short script
- Write an original piece of maximum 1,000 words in English responding to the theme Common Ground: Better Together
- Submit your entry as a Word or PDF document through the official RCS online portal before April 30, 2026
- Have your work reviewed by hundreds of volunteer judges from across the Commonwealth
- If selected as a regional winner, travel to London for a week of cultural and educational activities and an award ceremony
