📌 About the Program
The Scilab GUIVerse Hackathon 2026 is an open-source application development competition organized by the FOSSEE (Free and Open Source Software for Education) Project, IIT Bombay, supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The hackathon challenges participants to transform static Scilab scripts into dynamic, interactive, and user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications. It aims to build hands-on skills in scientific computing, data visualization, and open-source software development.

- Registration Opens: June 15, 2026
- Hackathon Start Date: July 15, 2026
- Submission Deadline: August 15, 2026
- Tentative Results Announcement: August 31, 2026
👥 Eligibility & Participation Rules
- Participation Format: Strictly Individual Participation (team entries are not allowed).
- Eligibility: Open to students, researchers, educators, and working professionals with a basic understanding of programming and numerical computation tools.
- Entry Limit: One entry per participant.
- Registration Fee: Free (No registration cost).
💡 Competition Themes
Participants can build GUI applications under five key tracks:
- Interactive STEM Education: Visual tools explaining concepts in math, physics, electronics, or engineering.
- Data Visualization Dashboards: Applications loading CSV data, performing statistical analysis, and generating interactive plots.
- Finance & Business Calculators: Practical tools for financial modeling, scenario comparison, and trend analysis.
- Science & Engineering Simulators: Dynamic models simulating real-world physical systems with real-time parameter controls.
- Utility & Productivity Apps: General-purpose open-source tools designed to automate or simplify complex computational workflows.
📜 Submission & Technical Guidelines
Technical Requirements
- The GUI application must incorporate at least 3 distinct Scilab GUI components.
- Directly copied code, simple calculators, or basic plotting examples without custom UI innovation are discouraged.
- All approved entries will be published under an open-source license.
