The Sustainable Innovation Hackathon 2026 is an elite, multi-phase national incubator challenge organized by the IIT Bombay-Honeywell Centre of Excellence for Future Skills & Innovation.
The program acts as an execution-oriented platform engineered to discover early-stage ideas and turn them into scalable green ventures. It aims to bridge the gap between academia and corporate environmental engineering by driving product, policy, and process innovations across core sustainability verticals.

The competition follows a structured multi-phase pipeline tracking from initial concept validation to full-scale commercial incubation:
- Phase 1: Idea Submission Deadline: July 15, 2026
- Phase 2: Idea Screening Layer: July 2026
- Phase 3: Pitch Deck Submission Gate: August 2026
- Phase 4: Pitch Deck Evaluation Matrix: September 1 โ September 30, 2026
- Phase 5: Structured Technical Mentorship: October โ November 2026
- Phase 6: On-Site Grand Finale: December 3 โ December 5, 2026
๐ฅ Strict Roster & Eligibility Parameters
To qualify for initial administrative approval, teams must meet all of the following structural requirements:
- Academic Baseline: Open strictly to students currently enrolled in full-time Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), or PhD programs at any recognized academic institution.
- Team Scaling Bounds: Minimum 3 members and a maximum of 4 members per roster.
- Mandatory Faculty Liaison: Every registering team must include exactly one faculty member from their base institution to serve as the team’s official mentor.

Teams are invited to submit tech-driven or entrepreneurial solutions targeting these primary environmental verticals:
- Clean & Green Energy Systems: Decentralized grid routing, biofuels, and hydrogen systems.
- Smart Agriculture & Food Systems: Agri-allied innovations, precision farming, and food security/nutrition frameworks.
- Circular Economy & Waste: Solid waste recycling management, closed-loop process loops, and electronic scrap recovery.
- Water & Wastewater Management: Low-cost filtration, industrial effluent treatment, and smart distribution telemetry.
- Built Environment & Mobility: Green building design protocols, energy efficiency, and sustainable urban transportation systems.
- ESG, Livelihoods & Health: Rural development metrics, healthcare medical sustainability, and Corporate Sustainability (ESG) reporting mechanisms.
๐ Prize Pools, Funding Grants & Incubation
The financial rewards are structured to help early-stage ideas transition smoothly into real-world startups:
- Direct Cash Prize Pool: Up to โน5,00,000 (โน5 Lakhs) total cash allocation distributed as follows:
- First Place Winners: โน1,25,000 (โน1.25 Lakh)
- Second Place Winners: โน1,00,000 (โน1 Lakh)
- Third Place Winners: โน75,000
- Scale-up Capital Seed Grant: High-potential prototypes can unlock deep-tech seed funding grants of up to โน50,0000 (โน50 Lakhs).
- Institutional Incubation: Winning cohorts receive official incubation support directly at IIT Bombay, providing access to world-class laboratory systems, corporate mentorship networks, and venture capital syndicates.
