The Biosensors Laboratory, IIT Guwahati, primarily focuses on the development of advanced bioanalytical techniques and devices for rapid detection of analyte mostly in the healthcare and allied fields. The biorecognition elements used in the development of sensors include enzymes, aptamers and microorganisms. The biochemical signals that are generated as a result of the interaction between the biorecognition probe and the target analytes are converted to readable forms using various optical (absorbance, fluorescence) and electrochemical (amperometric, voltametric, potentiometric) transduction principles. One of the critical factors for developing a sensor against a target is to identify or develop an apt biorecognition molecule by in silico or in vitro methods followed by experimental validation. Our research laboratory, therefore, lays emphasis on both identification and development of biorecognition moleucules and development of sensors.
