HGS-HIRe and GSI are organizing a Summer Student Program which is offered to a limited number of students in physics or related natural science disciplines from Europe or GSI/FAIR partner countries.
About Helmholtz Graduate School For Hadron And Ion Research (HGS-HIRe) (https://hgs-hire.de/):
GSI, the German research center for heavy-ion physics, is one of the world's leading accelerator laboratories for basic research with accelerated ions. In cooperation with an international research community the existing accelerator complex will be significantly extended by a new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). The center provides unique research opportunities for investigations in the fields of hadronic and nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, atomic, laser, and plasma physics, materials science, and biophysics with applications to cancer therapy, new accelerator developments and radiation safety. Detailed information about the research centre can be found here.
About the Internship:
Each participant joins one of the GSI research groups and works on a small project during the program. In addition, a dedicated lecture series is held introducing the various research fields and applications at GSI. The program is complemented by introductory soft skills courses.
# of Internships available: 35
Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
are available for full time (in-office) internship
are available for duration of 2 months
have relevant skills and interests
- Applicants should have completed the 3rd year of study as well as courses in one of the following three fields: nuclear physics, high energy physics, or atomic physics by the beginning of the program.
Accommodation will be provided in a hotel close to GSI and support towards travel expenses as well as a daily allowance will be covered.
