About the internship
As a legal research intern, you will be responsible for researching laws, legal precedents, case law, statutes, and regulations. You will assist attorneys by providing comprehensive legal support and assisting with case preparation, documentation, and analysis.
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Conduct in-depth research on legal issues, statutes, case law, and regulations to support ongoing cases and legal matters
2. Analyze and summarize legal documents, including judgments, opinions, contracts, and statutes, to assist the legal team in formulating strategies
3. Prepare research reports, memoranda, and legal briefs on specific topics as directed by attorneys
4. Monitor legislative developments, regulatory changes, and case law updates that may impact the firm's clients and provide timely updates
5. Assist in drafting legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, motions, and other legal correspondence
6. Ensure all legal research is thorough, accurate, and up to date, maintaining a strong knowledge of relevant laws and precedents
7. Maintain a comprehensive record of legal research for easy retrieval and use by attorneys
8. Collaborate with the legal team to identify key legal issues, risks, and opportunities related to clients' legal matters
9. Support attorneys in case preparation, including helping with the organization of case files, evidence, and legal materials
10. Provide guidance and recommendations on the applicability of legal precedents and research findings to clients' cases
11. Keep track of deadlines, and filing dates, and ensure timely delivery of research and documents

Other requirements
1. A law degree (or in progress) or a legal-related background, with knowledge of legal research methods and tools
2. Excellent research skills, with experience using legal research databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, or similar platforms
3. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to comprehend and summarize complex legal texts and case law
4. Excellent writing skills with attention to detail, and the ability to draft clear and concise legal reports and memos
5. Familiarity with legal terminology, case law, statutes, and regulations
6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
7. A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive legal matters
8. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a legal team
9. Strong communication skills for effectively discussing legal matters with attorneys and other team members
10. Prior experience in a legal research role or a law firm setting is a plus
