A metallurgist, also known as a metallurgical engineer or metal science engineer, is a professional responsible for extracting, processing, molding, and combining metals. Metallurgists have extensive knowledge of engineering and manufacturing, which allows them to support companies from various industries as they approach or engage in developing effective and sustainable manufacturing processes.
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Use knowledge of overall heat treatment processes, including quenching, tempering, annealing, and normalizing, and their effects on steel hardness and structure.
2. Study properties, behavior, and mixtures of metals.
3. Investigate production issues and instances of metal corrosion and fatigue.
4. Maintain quality control procedures and standards in the manufacturing process.
5. Perform and evaluate data analyses to address material science challenges.
Requirements:
1. Understanding of overall heat treatment processes and their impact on metals.
2. Knowledge of metal properties and behavior.
3. Experience in investigating production issues related to metal corrosion and fatigue.
4. Familiarity with quality control procedures and standards.
5. Ability to analyze data to solve material science problems.
