1. Should have a solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
2. Must have an understanding of networking protocols (e.g., RIP, IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, ISIS, 802.11, QoS)
3. CCNA or higher certification is an added bonus
