About Partition Museum

The Partition Museum set up under the aegis of The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust (TAACHT), is a 'People's Museum' to remember all those millions who lost their homes or loved ones at the time of the partition of the sub-continent in 1947.

The Museum opened to the public in August 1947 and receives thousands of visitors every day. The museum has received a real outpouring of support from all directions, including from partition families in Punjab/Bengal/abroad, major national and international museums and universities, researchers and authors, and particularly, from the media.

As it is a People's Museum', it contains hundreds of stories of those who actually went through the partition, therefore, a key component of setting up the museum is recording oral histories of the partition survivors and collecting information relating to that time from archival sources, literature, music, and film.
