The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is a premier national centre for research and development in theoretical as well as experimental astronomy, astrophysics and related physics invites applications for its summer programme.
About Indian Institute of Astrophysics (https://www.iiap.res.in/):
The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a premier institute devoted to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. It traces its origins back to an observatory set up in 1786 at Madras which from the year 1792 began to formally function at its Nungambakkam premises as the Madras Observatory. In 1899, the observatory moved to Kodaikanal. In the year 1971, the Kodaikanal Observatory became an autonomous society, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The headquarters were shifted to Bangalore into its present campus in Koramangala in 1975. Today, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, the Institute ranks as a premier institution devoted to research and education of astronomy and physics in the country. The main observing facilities of the Institute are located at Kodaikanal, Kavalur, Gauribidanur and Hanle.
About the Internship:
The visiting students internship programme is conducted by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) with the aim to promote scientific research interest in college and university students. Students selected for this programme work on specific projects in astrophysics / astronomical instrumentation that form a part of the ongoing research at IIA. Based on the nature of the project, the students shall be asked to work at either the main campus of IIA in Bangalore or its field stations.
Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
  1. are available for full time (in-office) internship
  2. are available for duration of 2 weeks
  3. have relevant skills and interests
Other requirements:
  1. Students who are in the pre-final year of their M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc in Physics/Mathematics BE/B.Tech. (Applied Physics / Engineering Physics / Computer Science/Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Radio Physics/ Photonics / Optics).
  2. The minimum eligibility criteria for the students to apply for the visiting internship programme is that they must have a consistently good academic performance (starting from their 10th standard exam) scoring more than 60% of marks or a CGPA of more than six, depending on the case.
Additional Information:
Students selected to do short term projects (after the School) will be provided accommodation at nominal rate and food at subsidized price.
