Students can participate in a 10-week summer research program under the direction of the biochemistry and biophysics faculty. Topics of research include structural biology, molecular genetics, genomics, enzymology, and biophysics. Students will have weekly meetings, which allows them to explore research opportunities, discussing research ethics, and learn effective oral and written presentation skills.
About College Of Agriculture And Life Sciences, Texas A&M University (https://biochemistry.tamu.edu/):
Since 1947, our department has been at the core of the molecular life sciences at Texas A&M. Offering one of the first biochemical genetics course in the nation in 1953, we have seen the spectacular growth of our department as we delve deeper into the realms of the chemical and atomic determinants of life. Our expansion has been so great that Texas A&M has now grown into a world-class research university, 19th in research and development expenditures by the National Science Foundation.
About the Internship:
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include participating in weekly meetings in order to explore the diversity of research opportunities in this vibrant field and to learn effective oral and written presentation skills.
Each undergraduate researcher will receive a stipend of $5500 for the 10-week program, plus dormitory room (single-bedroom in a suite), and food expenses (added to the stipend payments). In addition, a travel allowance of up to $800 is available to cover the costs of round-trip transportation. We will arrange housing at a dormitory near Texas A&M. It is possible for students to live in an off-campus apartment during the summer program, but such arrangements will be the responsibility of that student.
Who can apply:
Only those candidates can apply who:
are available for full time (in-office) internship
are available for duration of 2 months
have relevant skills and interests
- The program is open to pre-baccalaureate undergraduate students majoring in biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, biology, or any life science.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have finished their third year and already taken organic chemistry and biochemistry courses.
- Outstanding students who have completed their second year of college work will also be considered.
