The decision to migrate to a big city is born out of distress, not choice. Individuals & families are pushed out of their villages in rural India by drought, debts, & the search for secure livelihoods. However, living conditions in our cities are harsh & access to education, healthcare, & basic amenities is severely lacking for these marginalized populations. Children from these communities are often prevented from attending school due to multiple reasons - from physical access, existing learning deficits, & cultural barriers. Even if they can attend, non-learning in under-resourced government schools presents a further barrier to their education. This leads to poor school outcomes, low attendance, & ultimately to dropouts.
Gubbachi is a not-for-profit organization working for the education of underserved children. We work in 9 government schools & two Bridge Learning Centers for out-of-school children towards developing strong foundational learning deeply impacting 1200+ children.
