The Action for Self Reliance and Alternatives (ASRA), is a voluntary organization registered under the Trust Act of 1860 working for the equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities in the slums and resettlement colonies since 1992. It is committed to their upliftment and empowerment. It ensures that their medical, social, vocational & economic needs are met. ASRA creates awareness that there is life after disability through proper rehabilitation and it promotes the concept of disability prevention through creating awareness of health, implementation of a service delivery program through its community-based rehabilitation which is its outreach program, and its permanent center called ASRA Rehabilitation and Training Centre at Uttam Nagar. ASRA has an AIRTC special school that has children up to the age of 13 years with mild intellectual disabilities and speech and hearing impairments. ASRA works towards their comprehensive rehabilitation and overall well-being.
